If you’ve never had a self-saucing chocolate pudding, make this one and thank us later. It was a favorite dessert from childhood and is the cake-type chocolate pudding with a rich chocolate sauce. We’re pulling this one out of the vault and is absolutely one that the kids can make too, it’s that easy. We hope you enjoy making and eating this fabulous dessert.

Serving Size
1 cup
Ingredients
- Pudding (Note: if you have self-rising flour, use that instead of the regular flour, baking powder & baking soda)
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 7 tbsp butter, melted and cooled
Sauce
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 ¾ cups boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C or 350°F. Grease a 6 cup capacity (8" x 8") baking dish with butter or baking spray and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine all the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, baking powder, cocoa & brown sugar).
- In a separate bowl, combine the butter, egg & milk. When mixed, pour the liquid into the dry ingredients until well combined & smooth.
- Pour into your greased baking dish and smooth the top.
- Mix the brown sugar and cocoa together for the sauce. Sprinkle evenly on top of the batter.
- Using a metal spoon, touch the tip to the surface of the cake batter and gently pour the boiling water onto the spoon so as not to splash the surface.
- Bake for 35 minutes. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before serving as the sauce will be scorching hot. Serve on it's own, dusted with icing sugar, with whipped cream, ice-cream and or fresh berries.
